Explanation of Surah Abasa (80:34) - "On the Day a Man Will Flee from His Brother"

The verse "يَوْمَ يَفِرُّ ٱلۡمَرۡءُ مِنۡ أَخِيهِ" (Surah Abasa, 80:34) reflects the fear and distress that will overcome individuals on the Day of Judgment, where even the strongest human bonds, such as that of a brother, will be of no help. People will be solely focused on their own fate and survival, fleeing from everyone, even their loved ones.

Similar Quranic Verses:

  1. Surah Abasa (80:35-37) - Family Bonds Will Be Severed: "وَأُمِّهِ وَأَبِيهِ وَفَصِيلَتِهِ الَّتِي تُؤۡوِيهِ وَمَن فِى ٱلۡأَرۡضِ جَمِيعًۭا ثُمَّ يُنجِيهِ" Translation: "And his mother and his father, and his wife and his children. For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him."
On the Day of Judgment, even the closest family members—parents, spouse, and children—will be unable to help as each person will be preoccupied with their own fate.

Translation: "On the Day when a man will flee from his brother, and his mother, and his father, and his wife, and his children, every man, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others."
The verse shows how even the strongest human relationships will not provide solace, as everyone will be concerned solely with their own fate.

  3. Surah Az-Zalzalah (99:6-8) - The Earth Will Testify: "وَقَالَ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ مَا لَهَا يَوۡمَئِذٍۢ تُحَدِّثُ أَخۡبَٰرَهَا بِأَنَّ رَبَّكَۤ أَوۡحَىٰ لَهَا" Translation: "And man will say, 'What is [wrong] with it?' That Day, it will report its news, because your Lord has commanded it."
This Surah emphasizes that the earth itself will testify to the deeds of the people, further underscoring the helplessness of individuals who will be held accountable for their actions.

  4. Surah Al-Mutaffifin (83:14-17) - Denying the Day of Recompense: "إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ يُكَذِّبُونَ بِٱلۡجَزَاءِ لَفِى ضَلَٰلٍۢ بَعِيدٍۢ" Translation: "Indeed, those who deny the Day of Recompense are in a far error."
This Surah speaks of those who reject the reality of the Day of Judgment, but on that Day, all will witness the truth, and no one will be able to escape the reckoning.
