Background of Revelation

Once, the Holy Prophet ﷺ was inviting the leaders of the Quraish towards Islam. During this time, Hazrat Abdullah bin Umm Maktoom (May Allah be pleased with him), the blind Companion, arrived. He persistently requested the Holy Prophet ﷺ to teach him what Allah Almighty had revealed.

This interruption displeased the Holy Prophet ﷺ to the extent that signs of his displeasure appeared on his blessed countenance. Without responding to Hazrat Abdullah, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ went to his house. It was on this occasion that these verses were revealed.
