أَمَّا مَنِ ٱسۡتَغۡنَىٰ

Transliteration:( Amma manis taghnaa )

5. As to he who is careless [4]. (Kanzul Imaan Translation)

(5) As for he who thinks himself without need,[1855] (Saheen International Translation)

4. The Need for the Holy Prophet ﷺ

From this, we learn that considering oneself independent of the Holy Prophet ﷺ is the worst form of infidelity. Everyone is in need of the Holy Prophet ﷺ.

The infidels had not only regarded themselves as independent of Allah Almighty but were also indifferent to the Holy Prophet ﷺ. This attitude was condemned by Allah Almighty.

Divine Guidance to the Holy Prophet ﷺ

It means: "O My Beloved Prophet ﷺ! Why should you care about these leaders of the Quraish who are so careless and indifferent towards you? Instead, you should focus on these poor devotees who always consider themselves your obedient servants."

(80:5) Now he who waxes indifferent,


There is no commentary by Abul Maududi available for this verse.

(5) As for he who thinks himself without need,[1855]

[1855]- i.e., without need of faith or need of Allāh (subḥānahu wa taʿālā) . Here it is in reference to a certain influential member of the Quraysh whom the Prophet (ﷺ) had hoped to bring to Islām.
