📖 Commentary of Verse 45 (Surah Hud)

45. So they were neither able to rise up nor could they take revenge [51].

[51] Inability to Take Revenge

  • The people of Thamud, after being struck by the thunderbolt, were completely powerless. They could neither rise up nor take any action to defend themselves.

  • They were unable to take revenge on Hazrat Jibraeel (Peace be upon him) or Prophet Saleh (Peace be upon him), who had delivered the divine message and warned them.

  • This demonstrates the absolute control of Allah over His creation—when the divine punishment descends, no one can oppose it or escape its consequences.

Ibn-Kathir

The tafsir of Surah Ad-Dhariyat verse 45 by Ibn Kathir is unavailable here.
Please refer to Surah Dhariyat ayat 38 which provides the complete commentary from verse 38 through 46.

(51:45) They were unable even to stand up or protect themselves.[42]

Ala-Maududi

(51:45) They were unable even to stand up or protect themselves.[42]

42. Intisar from which the word muntasirun in the original is derived means to save oneself from an attack by somebody as well as to avenge oneself on the attacker.

(45) And they were unable to arise, nor could they defend themselves.
