📖 Commentary of Verse 9 (Surah At-Tur)

"As he alone turns away from the Quran who himself is turned away."

✅ [9] Turning Away from the Quran

  • The verse refers to the polytheists of Makkah, who would attempt to mislead those inclined towards Islam, calling the Prophet magician or poet to divert them from the truth.

  • Those destined to accept faith would not be misled by their false claims.

  • Anyone who turns away from the Prophet's message is unfortunate, as they are not receptive to the divine guidance and blessings that the Prophet brings.

  • The verse emphasizes that the Prophet has the key to all blessings, and it is essential for one to open themselves to his guidance.

Ibn-Kathir

The tafsir of Surah Ad-Dhariyat verse 9 by Ibn Kathir is unavailable here.
Please refer to Surah Dhariyat ayat 1 which provides the complete commentary from verse 1 through 14.

(51:9) though only those who are averse to the Truth will turn away from (believing in it).[7]

Ala-Maududi

(51:9) though only those who are averse to the Truth will turn away from (believing in it).[7]

7. The pronoun of anhu in this sentence either turns to the meting out of the rewards and punishments, or to various views. In the first case, it means: The meting out of the rewards has to take place, in spite of your holding different beliefs about it; but only such a person is perverted from it who has turned away from the truth. In the second case, the meaning is: Only such a one is misled by these different views, who has turned away from the truth.

(9) Deluded away from it [i.e., the Qur’ān] is he who is deluded.
