Transliteration:( Liyu 'azzibal laahul munaafiqeena wal munaafiqaati walmushrikeena wal mushrikaati wa yatoobal laahu 'alal mu'mineena walmu'minaat; wa kaanal laahu Ghafoorar Raheema (section 9) )
"So that Allah may torment the hypocrites, men and women and the polytheist men and women [203], and that Allah may accept the repentance of Muslim men and women [204]. Allah is Forgiving, Merciful. (Kanzul Imaan Translation)"
The word "liyuaʿdhdhiba" (so that He may torment) uses the lam of consequence, not of purpose. This means the outcome—not the intention—of giving the trust to humanity was that:
Those who violated it, like hypocrites and polytheists, became deserving of Divine punishment.
This clarifies that the trust was a test, and its acceptance exposed the reality of each individual—separating the faithful from the treacherous.
On the other hand, Muslim men and women who remained true to the trust and did not breach it are granted acceptance of their repentance.
They are those who stayed loyal to Allah and His Beloved Prophet ﷺ. The trust thus served as a distinguishing line—clarifying who is worthy of mercy and forgiveness, and who is deserving of punishment.
This verse closes the passage by reaffirming that Allah is Forgiving and Merciful, always ready to accept repentance from those who uphold their moral and spiritual responsibilities.
