📖 Commentary of Surah Al-Anbiya – Verse 2

"Whenever any admonition [3] comes to them from their Lord, they hear it not but playing [4]." (Kanzul Imaan Translation)

✅ [3] The Eternal Yet Ever-Renewed Revelation

The Book of Allah Almighty is eternal, but its delivery to humanity occurs over time. Hence, it is described here as a “new message” (Mohdith)—not because it is newly created, but because its arrival is fresh for those receiving it.

This highlights the continuous and relevant nature of divine guidance, which meets people at different times with timely warnings and wisdom.

✅ [4] Listening with a Mocking Attitude

This verse refers to those infidels who do not listen to the Qur'an with sincerity.

Although they hear the recitation, their intention is not to understand or accept, but to mock and reject it.

Therefore, “they hear it not but playing” means their hearts are distracted and their approach is unserious.
There is no contradiction between physically hearing and emotionally jestingthey hear the sound, but not the message.
