📖 Commentary of Surah Al-Anbiya – Verse 49

"Those who fear [79], their Lord, Unseen, and who are dreadful of the Hour."

✅ [79] The Value of Unseen Fear

This verse praises those who fear Allah without having seen Him, and are constantly aware of the coming of the Day of Judgement.

The key qualities of these believers:

  • They fear their Lord in the unseen — this fear is based on faith, not on physical vision.

  • They are truly concerned about the Hour, the Day of Resurrection, and what it entails.

This verse teaches that:

  • True taqwa (God-consciousness) is rooted in faith in the unseen,

  • Unlike temporary fear that arises from visible threats — for example, even Shaitaan became afraid when he saw the angels at Badr and said:

"I fear Allah, the Lord of the worlds." (Surah Al-Anfal 8:48)
But that fear was not beneficial, because it was not rooted in sincere belief.

So, beneficial fear is that which comes from conviction, not reaction.
