Transliteration:( Law kaana haaa'ulaaa'i aalihatan maa waradoohaa wa kullun feehaa khaalidoon )
"If these had been gods, they would not have gone to Hell [154], and all shall abide therein [155]."
There are two reasons for casting the worshipped objects into Hell:
To increase the punishment—e.g., the heat of the sun adding to Hell’s fire.
To expose their helplessness—as mentioned here: “If they were really gods, why are they in Hell?” This shows their falseness and worthlessness.
This refers to both the deities and their worshippers—
The worshippers will remain for punishment,
While the false gods, like the sun and other inanimate idols, will remain to serve as instruments of that punishment.
