Transliteration:( Mai yahdil laahu fa huwal muhtadee wa mai yudlil fa ulaaa'ika humul khaasiroon )
Whomsoever Allah guides, he is rightly guided; and whomsoever He leads astray, they are the losers [409].
This verse emphasizes that right guidance is solely granted by Allah. No matter how intelligent or knowledgeable a person may be, such traits are beneficial only when accompanied by Allah’s mercy. For example, Satan possessed immense knowledge and understanding, yet due to the absence of divine mercy, he became accursed. Thus, intellect alone cannot protect one from deviation.
When a person’s heart is corrupted by evil intent, Allah’s decree of misguidance befalls him. However, this divine misguidance is a response to their inner wickedness, not injustice. Just as Allah creates death at the moment of murder, the murderer is still held responsible for his intent and action. Likewise, when someone is led astray, they bear the blame for their downfall, making them the true losers both in this world and the Hereafter.
178. Whomsoever Allah guides, he is the guided one, and whomsoever He sends astray, — then those! They are the losers.) Allah says, whomever He leads aright, then none can lead him to misguidance, and whomever He leads astray, will have acquired failure, loss and sure misguidance. Verily, whatever Allah wills occurs; and whatever He does not will, does not occur. A Hadith narrated from `Abdullah bin Mas`ud reads,
(All praise is due to Allah, Whom we praise and seek help, guidance and forgiveness from. We seek refuge with Allah from the evils within ourselves and from the burden of our evil deeds. He whom Allah guides, will never be misled; and he whom He misguides, will never have one who will guide him. I bear witness that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah without partners and that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger.) The complete Hadith was collected by Imam Ahmad and the collectors of Sunan and others.
(7:178) He whom Allah guides, he alone is rightly guided; and he whom Allah lets go astray – it is they who are the loser.’
