📖 Commentary on Surah Al-A‘raaf – Verse 193

And if you call them towards guidance, they will not follow you. It is the same for you whether you invite them or remain silent [446].

✅ Lifeless Idols Are Incapable of Response or Guidance [446]

This verse emphasizes that idols are utterly unresponsive—no matter how much one calls upon them, they cannot follow, speak, move, or comprehend. They lack even the basic faculties of hearing, walking, or understanding. Hence, whether you invite them or stay silent, it makes no difference—their inability to respond is absolute.

This serves as a stark contrast to Allah Almighty, who is All-Powerful, even though He is unseen. His existence and power are manifest through the signs in His creation, while these lifeless objects, though visible, possess no power or worthiness for worship.

Ibn-Kathir

The tafsir of Surah Al-A’raf verse 193 by Ibn Kathir is unavailable here.
Please refer to Surah A’raf ayat 191 which provides the complete commentary from verse 191 through 198.

(7:193) And if you call them to true guidance, they will not follow you. It is all the same for you whether you call them to true guidance or keep silent. [147]

Ala-Maududi

(7:193) And if you call them to true guidance, they will not follow you. It is all the same for you whether you call them to true guidance or keep silent. [147]

147. As to the false gods set up by the polytheists, what is the extent of their power? Not only, do they not have the power to guide others, they do not even have the power to follow others or even to answer the call of their devotees.

(193) And if you [believers] invite them to guidance, they will not follow you. It is all the same for you whether you invite them or you are silent.
