69. And has this surprised you that an admonition has come to you from your Lord through a man from amongst you, so that he may warn you? (Kanzul Imaan Translation)

(69) Then do you wonder that there has come to you a reminder from your Lord through a man from among you, that he may warn you? 📖 Commentary of Surah Al-An’aam – Verse 69

"And has this surprised you that an admonition has come to you from your Lord through a man from amongst you, so that he may warn you? And remember [165] when He appointed you successors of the people of Nuh and increased the stature of your body [166]. Then remember the bounties of Allah, that you may fare well [167]."

✅ Learning from History and Reflecting on Divine Gifts [165]

This verse encourages the study of history—not for storytelling, but to learn lessons from the rise and fall of previous nations. Reflecting on Allah’s favors, especially how past peoples were dealt with, is a form of worship and a means of gaining admonition. It deepens our awareness and makes us more grateful and humble.

✅ Aad’s Power and Physical Greatness [166]

The people of Aad were granted immense strength and physical grandeur. Their kingdom was mighty, and their bodies were massive—a small-sized person among them was sixty feet tall, while larger ones were over a hundred feet. Their heads were like tents, and eyes like bird nests, showing the extraordinary physical traits they were blessed with. Yet despite this, they became arrogant and ungrateful.

✅ Constant Remembrance of Allah’s Bounties [167]

Always remembering Allah’s blessings is not only a virtuous act but also a way to ensure success and righteousness. Events like Meelad Shareef, where the life and birth of the Holy Prophet ﷺ are remembered, fall under this principle. The Prophet’s birth is considered the greatest bounty ever bestowed upon mankind, and commemorating it is an act of gratitude and spiritual reflection.

Ibn-Kathir

The tafsir of Surah Al-A’raf verse 69 by Ibn Kathir is unavailable here.
Please refer to Surah A’raf ayat 65 which provides the complete commentary from verse 65 through 69.

(7:69) Do you wonder that an exhortation should come to you from your Lord through a man from amongst yourselves that he may warn you? And do call to mind when He made you successors after the people of Noah and amply increased you in stature. Remember then the wondrous bounties[52] of Allah, that you may prosper.’

Ala-Maududi

(7:69) Do you wonder that an exhortation should come to you from your Lord through a man from amongst yourselves that he may warn you? And do call to mind when He made you successors after the people of Noah and amply increased you in stature. Remember then the wondrous bounties[52] of Allah, that you may prosper.’

52. The word ala’ used in the above verse stands for bounties, wondrous works of nature, and praiseworthy qualities. The purpose of the verse is to impress upon man to gratefully, recognize the favours God has lavished upon him, bearing in mind that God also has the Power to take them away.

(69) Then do you wonder that there has come to you a reminder from your Lord through a man from among you, that he may warn you? And remember when He made you successors after the people of Noah and increased you in stature extensively. So remember the favors of Allāh that you might succeed."
