Transliteration:( Afa amina ahlul quraaa ai ya'tiyahum ba'sunaa bayaatanw wa hum naaa'imoon )
Do the people of the towns feel secure that Our punishment may come upon them at night while they are asleep (231)?
This verse warns those who become heedless of divine punishment, especially the people of Makkah and nearby towns. The question is rhetorical, reminding them that Allah’s punishment can strike suddenly, even while people rest in comfort and sleep. Becoming carefree and fearless of Allah is not bravery—it is a sign of spiritual blindness and kufr. Fear of Allah is a mark of true faith, and removing it from the heart is a path toward destruction. The Prophet ﷺ himself would show signs of fear even at the sight of dark clouds, worried that they might bring divine punishment. This verse is a strong reminder that complacency is not safety, and that living without taqwa invites sudden divine wrath.
