    22. The Ceiling of Hell and Its Sealing

    This verse speaks about the nature of Hell and its construction, emphasizing its complete isolation from the outside world.

    1. Sealing of Hell's Ceiling:
      • The verse suggests that there is no means for air or light to filter into Hell from the outside. The ceiling of Hell is sealed, preventing any external source of relief or light from reaching the inhabitants.
    2. Lack of Ventilation:
      • There are no openings, no ventilators, or any holes in the ceiling of Hell. This implies that the environment inside Hell is utterly sealed and oppressive.
    3. Smoke and Internal Conditions:
      • The verse also indicates that even the smoke produced within Hell cannot escape. The conditions inside Hell are described as being so suffocating that even the smoke is confined to the space, contributing to the torment of those within.
    4. Meaning of Complete Isolation:
      • The imagery of a sealed Hell signifies complete isolation from any form of relief or hope. There is no escape, no way for any positive element like air, light, or relief to enter. The punishment is total and unending.

    (90:20) Upon them shall be a Fire that will hem them in.[16]

    16. That is, fire will be so covering them from every side that they will find no way of escape from it.
