Transliteration:( kamaaa arsalnaa feekum Rasoolam minkum yatloo 'alaikum aayaatina wa yuzakkeekum wa yu'alli mukumul kitaaba wal hikmata wa yu'allimukum maa lam takoonoo ta'lamoon )
"Just as We have sent among you a Messenger from yourselves, who recites to you Our verses and purifies you [318], teaches you the Book and wisdom [319], and teaches you what you did not know [320]." (Kanzul Imaan Translation)
From this verse, several points emerge:
The Holy Prophet's arrival is Allah's greatest bounty for the believers. Allah Almighty says in Surah Aal-E-Imran (3:164), "Undoubtedly Allah did a great favor to the Muslims" by sending the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, who serves as a guide and mercy for mankind.
The Prophet as a Universal Messenger: The Prophet was sent for all of humanity, without distinction of race or creed. Allah states in Surah Al-Furqan (25:6), "That he may be a warner unto the entire world." This establishes that the message of the Prophet ﷺ is universal.
The Honor of Mankind: The fact that the Prophet was sent from among humans raises the status of mankind to the highest level. Allah's creation of mankind is made noble by the Prophet's presence, as clarified in the phrase "From yourselves."
Connection to the Qur'an: Through the Prophet ﷺ, we received the Qur'an, its laws, secrets, and blessings. When it says, "recite to you," it emphasizes that the Qur'an is delivered through the Prophet. Therefore, anyone who turns away from the Prophet is also turning away from the Qur'an.
The Importance of Hadith: After the Qur'an, the Hadith (sayings and actions) of the Prophet ﷺ hold the greatest authority. The "mature knowledge" mentioned refers to the teachings of the Prophet, and "Follow the Book" directs us to the Qur'an, the ultimate guidance.
The phrase "And purifies you" teaches that true purification does not come from one's own deeds alone, but rather through the grace and guidance of the Prophet ﷺ. Allah instructs the Prophet in Surah At-Tawbah (9:103), "O Beloved Prophet! Realize the poor due (Zakat) out of their wealth to purify them and cleanse them therewith." This shows that purification is not solely about individual effort; it is also through the teachings and spiritual influence of the Prophet ﷺ.
The final part of the verse, "teaches you what you did not know," highlights that the Prophet ﷺ possessed knowledge that was beyond human capacity—knowledge of the unseen. This was shared with his companions, even if they may have forgotten it, as confirmed in authentic narrations like those in Sahih Bukhari. The verse also alludes to the complete Shariah (divine law) being taught by the Prophet ﷺ. The Qur'an and Hadith together form the complete code of conduct for Muslims, and the Prophet ﷺ imparted this wisdom to his companions, ensuring that they were well-equipped to follow and teach the principles of Islam.
