22.(It is He) Who made for you the earth a bed [42] and made the sky a canopy and sent down from the sky water [43] and brought forth thereby fruits as provision for you. Therefore, do not equate anyone with Allah while you know [44] (that there is none similar to Him). (Kanzul Imaan Translation)

(22) [He] who made for you the earth a bed [spread out] and the sky a ceiling and sent down from the sky, rain and brought forth thereby fruits as provision for you. So do not attribute to Allāh equals while you know [that there is nothing similar to Him]. (Saheen International Translation)

📖 Commentary of Verse 22 (Surah Al-Baqarah)

"(It is He) Who made for you the earth a bed [42] and made the sky a canopy and sent down from the sky water [43] and brought forth thereby fruits as provision for you. Therefore, do not equate anyone with Allah while you know. [44]"

✅ [42] Rain as a Blessing Through Natural Systems

Rain descends from the sky or higher atmospheric levels through natural processes like evaporation from heat and condensation from cold, ultimately resulting in rainfall.

This affirms that rain only comes from above, not from any earthly source.

While the previous verse emphasized creation, this verse shifts to the sustaining of life—signifying permanent provision, which is a greater ongoing favor from Allah.

✅ [43] Fruits as Sustenance from Rain

Through rain, fruits and crops emerge—provisions essential for human survival and comfort—further proving Allah's continuous mercy and planning.

✅ [44] Do Not Associate Partners with Allah

Since these blessings are clearly known, associating partners with Allah is an act of willful ignorance.

You know He is without equal, so shirk (association) is both irrational and unjust.

Ibn-Kathir

The tafsir of Surah Baqarah verse 22 by Ibn Kathir is unavailable here.
Please refer to Surah Baqarah ayat 21 which provides the complete commentary from verse 21 through 22.

(2:22) It is He Who has made the earth a resting-place for you, and the sky a canopy, and sent down water from above wherewith He brought forth fruits for your sustenance. Do not, then, set up rivals[23] to Allah when you know (the Truth).

Ala-Maududi

(2:22) It is He Who has made the earth a resting-place for you, and the sky a canopy, and sent down water from above wherewith He brought forth fruits for your sustenance. Do not, then, set up rivals[23] to Allah when you know (the Truth).

23. That is, when man recognizes that all those things were done by none but God, then worship, devotion and service must be exclusively for Him. For who besides the Creator can legitimately claim these things from man?

Not to set up others as rivals to Allah means not to make anyone other than God the object of worship, service and obedience that one owes to God alone. Later on we shall see, in some detail, how the Qur’an itself specifies the forms of worship and service which we owe exclusively to God, and wherein associating anyone else amounts to shirk (associating others with God in His divinity). This, the Qur’an seeks to eradicate.

(22) [He] who made for you the earth a bed [spread out] and the sky a ceiling and sent down from the sky, rain and brought forth thereby fruits as provision for you. So do not attribute to Allāh equals while you know [that there is nothing similar to Him].
