715. Allah makes it clear that Oh My Beloved Prophet you are not responsible for their guidance, nor will you be questioned regarding them not accepting Faith. From this we learn that we are totally dependent on our Holy Prophet by us accepting Faith will not enhance the status of neither by the Holy Prophet remaining unbelievers, will we be able to decrease his noble status one bit. Whether one believes in the sun as a giver of light or not, it will still remain bright.
716. From this we learn that True Guidance is received from the Will of Allah, not from mere love, because Allah loves every person as His creation, otherwise idol-worshipper would not have granted them provision and sent Prophets for their guidance. However, all are not blessed with Faith and guidance because of this love. Thus, general love of Allah is one thing, the Will of Allah is another thing.
717. From this emerge two issues:
At all times spend the best in the way of Allah as is ascertained from "From that which is good". Do not make the beggar a butt of your gratitude because whatever you give is for your good.
718. It should be remembered that whatever charity is given in the name of Saints, it is given to seek the pleasure of Allah, but the recipient of its reward are the Saints. e.g. Hazrat S'aad (on whom be peace) after opening a well said its reward will be for the Mother of S'aad.
719. Allah Almighty says that there will be no decrease in the reward of your good deeds, you will, without any doubt receive full reward for them. Thus, there is no negation of increase in this verse. Allah will give reward to His servants much more in relation to their deeds. Says Allah Almighty: "The example of those who spend" (S2: V261) Hence there is no contradiction in this verse:
The tafsir of Surah Baqarah verse 271 by Ibn Kathir is unavailable here.
Please refer to Surah Baqarah ayat 270 which provides the complete commentary from verse 270 through 271.
(2:272) You are not responsible for setting these people on the Right Way; Allah sets on the Right Way whomsoever He wills. Whatever wealth you spend in charity is to your own benefit for you spend merely to please Allah. So, whatever you spend in charity will be repaid to you in full and you shall not be wronged.[313]
313. In the beginning Muslims tended to hesitate in helping either their non-Muslim relatives or other non-Muslims who were in need. They thought that helping Muslims only constituted ‘spending in the way of Allah’. This verse rejects this attitude. The purpose of this verse is to point out that Muslims are not responsible for forcing true guidance down the throats of people; conveying the message of Truth to people absolves them of the obligation incumbent upon them. It is, then, for God either to favour the recipients of the message with true perception or not. In addition Muslims should not shrink from helping their relatives in the affairs of the world on the ground that they are not following the true guidance; they will he rewarded by God for whatever help they render to needy persons for the sake of God.
