🏆 The Test of Hardship and Provision

📖 Tafseer (Commentary) of Ayah 89:16

🔹 How Does This Person React to Hardship?

⚠️ 😞 Complaining About Allah(اللَّهُ) – When Allah(اللَّهُ) tests him with limited provision, he:

  • Cries out in distress, saying, "My Lord has humiliated me."
  • Complains about his situation to everyone, rather than turning to Allah(اللَّهُ) with patience and faith.

🤐 Concealing Allah(اللَّهُ)'s Favors – He ignores the blessings he still has and only focuses on his difficulties.

🔹 Is Poverty a Disgrace?

⚖️ A Misconception About Wealth and Honor – He wrongly believes that poverty is a form of disgrace, whereas:

  • Many Prophets, Saints, and Islamic scholars lived in poverty yet were the most honored by Allah(اللَّهُ).
  • Wealth and poverty are both tests; neither guarantees honor or humiliation.

📖 Understanding the Word "QADR" – In this context, the word QADR can mean:

  • Hardship
  • Power and control
  • Estimation and decree
  • Honor or restriction in provision

🌟 True Honor Lies in Faith and Contentment – Whether in ease or hardship, a believer should remain grateful and patient, knowing that Allah(اللَّهُ) provides what is best.

Ala-Maududi

(89:16) But when He tests him by straitening his sustenance, he says: “My Lord has humiliated me.”[9]

9. This then is man’s materialistic view of life. He regards the wealth and position and power of this world alone as everything. When he has it, he is filled with pride and says God has honored me; and when he fails to obtain it, he says: God has humiliated me. Thus, the criterion of honor and humiliation in his sight is the possession of wealth and position and power, or the absence of it, whereas the truth which he does not understand is that whatever Allah has given anybody in the world has been given for the sake of a trial. If he has given him wealth and power, it has been given for a trial to see whether he becomes grateful for it, or commits ingratitude. If he has made him poor, in this too there is a trial for him to see whether he remains content and patient in the will of God and faces his hardships bravely within permissible bounds, or becomes ready to transgress every limit of morality and honesty and starts cursing his God.

(16) But when He tries him and restricts his provision, he says, "My Lord has humiliated me."
