    📖 Tafseer (Commentary) of Ayah 89:24

    🔹 The Cry of the Sinner

    ❌ "Alas! Had I Sent Forward Some Virtues in My Life!"

    • Two Possible Meanings:
      1. Worldly Life: The sinner will wish he had done good deeds while he was alive.
      2. Hereafter: He will regret wasting his life on temporary pleasures instead of preparing for his eternal life.

    🔹 The Regret of the Disbeliever

    ⚠️ A Regret That Becomes a Punishment –

    • For an infidel, regret is a form of punishment because it will not benefit him.
    • He wasted his time chasing wealth and pleasure, ignoring the real purpose of life.
    • Now it is too late! No repentance will be accepted.

    🔹 The Regret of the Believer

    ✅ A Believer’s Regret Leads to Mercy –

    • For a sinful believer, regret in this world can be a source of repentance.
    • If a believer regrets his sins, Allah اللَّهُ may forgive him.
    • Even on the Day of Judgment ⚖️, a believer’s regret may result in an elevation of status in Jannah 🌳.

    🔹 Lessons from This Verse

    🔴 Prepare for the Hereafter Now! –

    • Do not delay good deeds, as regret will not help later.

    🔴 Wealth Alone Will Not Save You –

    • Only righteous deeds will be valuable in the Hereafter.

    🔴 Repent While You Can! –

    • For believers, repentance can erase sins and elevate status.
    • For disbelievers, regret will be useless and only increase their suffering.

    Ala-Maududi

    (89:24) He will say: “Would that I had sent ahead what would be of avail for this life of mine!”
