📖 Commentary of Surah Al-Hajj – Verse 75

"Allah chooses Messengers from amongst the angels and from amongst the men. [153] Indeed, Allah is Hearing, Seeing."

✅ [153] Divine Selection of Messengers

This verse highlights that Allah Almighty selects His Messengers either from among the angels—to bring revelation—or from among human beings, who are chosen to guide mankind and serve His religion.

This indicates that Jinn are not chosen as Prophets. The system of choosing Prophets is part of the eternal will of Allah, and His selection has already occurred. There is no suggestion of future prophethood from this verse. Those whom Allah has chosen are Prophets forever, and their rank remains unabolished.

Particularly, the greatness and Shari’ah of our Beloved Prophet ﷺ can never be abrogated. Just as no new angel will be selected for this role in the future, no new human will ever again be chosen as a Prophet. Prophethood has reached its finality.

Ibn-Kathir

75. Allah chooses Messengers from angels and from men. Verily, Allah is All-Hearer, All-Seer. 76. He knows what is before them, and what is behind them. And to Allah return all matters.

Allah chooses Messengers from the Angels and Messengers from Mankind

Allah tells us that He chooses Messengers from His angels as He wills by His law and decree, and He chooses Messengers from mankind to convey His Message.

(Verily, Allah is All-Hearer, All-Seer.) means, He hears all that His servants say, and He sees them and knows who among them is deserving of that, as He says:

﴿اللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ حَيْثُ يَجْعَلُ رِسَالَتَهُ﴾

(Allah knows best with whom to place His Message) ﴿6:124﴾

(He knows what is before them, and what is behind them. And to Allah return all matters.) He knows what will happen to His Messengers and the Message He sent them with, for none of their affairs are hidden from Him. He says:

(“The All-Knower of the Ghayb (Unseen), and He reveals to none His Ghayb.”)﴿72:26﴾ until His saying;

(and He keeps count of all things.) ﴿72:28﴾ So He, may He be glorified, is guarding them, and is Witness to what is said about them. He is protecting them and supporting them.

(O Messenger! Proclaim which has been sent down to you from your Lord. And if you do not, then you have not conveyed His Message. Allah will protect you from mankind) ﴿5:67﴾.

(22:75) Allah chooses Messengers from among angels and from among human beings (to convey His command)[124]. Allah is All-Hearing, All-Seeing.

Ala-Maududi

(22:75) Allah chooses Messengers from among angels and from among human beings (to convey His command)[124]. Allah is All-Hearing, All-Seeing.

124. In continuation of the refutation of shirk, Allah has taken two kinds of the most revered of deities to show their real status, as if to say: The angels and the Prophets whom you have set up as deities are mere Messengers of Allah. Allah has chosen them to convey His messages to human beings and this does not make them God or partners in His Godhead.

(75) Allāh chooses from the angels messengers and from the people. Indeed, Allāh is Hearing and Seeing.
