Transliteration:( Wa innahaa labi sabeelim muqeem )
And surely that town is on the road that still exists [88]
This verse informs us that the town of the people of Lut (peace be upon him), which was overturned due to their sins, still lies along a well-traveled route—commonly believed to be near the Dead Sea area.
From this, we learn:
The traces of Divine punishment remain as visible signs and lasting warnings for future generations. Those who pass by can witness the remnants of a destroyed nation and reflect on the reasons behind it.
Preservation of punishment sites serves the purpose of admonition. The fact that it lies on a frequented path means that deniers cannot claim ignorance—they see the signs, but only those with awakened hearts take heed.
This verse emphasizes that historical events in the Qur'an are not legends but tangible realities, some of which are still accessible to the human eye for reflection and reminder.
(15:76) The place (where this occurred) lies along a known route.[42]
42. That is, that smitten territory lies on the high road from Hijaz (Arabia) to Syria and Egypt. Travelers come across these signs of destruction which are very prominent in the territory that lies to the southeast of the Dead Sea. The geographers are of the opinion that there is no other land on the surface of the Earth which looks desolate as this territory, especially its southern part.
