Surah Al-Hijr Ayat 80 Tafsir (Commentry)

91. HIJR is a place situated between Madina Munawwarah and Syria which had been inhabited by the people of Thamood. Hazrat Saleh (On whom be peace) was their Prophet. From this we learn that opposing one Prophet is indeed opposing all the Prophets, because the people of Thamood had not believed in Hazrat Saleh (On whom be peace) only, but Allah Almighty states that these people had falsified all the Prophets.

Similarly rejection of just one of the noble Companions of the Holy Prophet secretly rejecting all the Companions and the Noble Progeny of the Holy Prophet .The present day insolent people should take a lesson from it.

(15:80) Surely the people of al-Hijr[45] also rejected the Messengers, calling them liars.

Ala-Maududi

(15:80) Surely the people of al-Hijr[45] also rejected the Messengers, calling them liars.

45. Al-Hijr was the capital city of the people of Thamud, and its ruins are found near the modern city of Al-Ula which is to the north west of Al-Madinah, and lies on the route from AI-Madinah to Tabuk. Though the caravans had to pass through the valley of Al-Hijr, the Prophet (peace be upon him) had forbidden the Muslims to stay in the valley on their journey.

When Ibn Batutah reached there in the eighth century of Hijrah on his way to Makkah, he wrote: I have seen the buildings of Thamud hewed into red mountains; the paintings look so bright as if they have been put on only recently, and rotten bones of human beings are found in them even today.” See (Surah Al-Aaraf, ayat 73) note 57.

(80) And certainly did the companions of al-Ḥijr[683] [i.e., the Thamūd] deny the messengers.

[683]- The valley of stone.
