Transliteration:( Fa in kaz zabooka faqad kuz ziba Rusulum min qablika jaaa'oo bilbaiyinaati waz Zuburi wal Kitaabil Muneer )
“If they belie [419] you (O Beloved), they also belied the Messengers before you, who had come bearing clear proofs, scriptures of prophecies, and the shining Book [420].”
This verse offers comfort to the Holy Prophet ﷺ, reminding him that denial by disbelievers is not something new. Just as the previous Messengers were rejected, so too is he being belied by his people.
It advises the Prophet ﷺ to exercise patience, just as the earlier Prophets endured false accusations and hardship.
However, it is essential to note that no one’s patience can be compared to that of the Holy Prophet ﷺ. Despite enduring relentless torture, slander, and violence from the infidels of Makkah, the Prophet ﷺ forgave them all with unmatched grace and compassion.
The verse refers to three things brought by earlier Prophets:
Clear proofs – undeniable miracles and signs.
Scrolls (Suhuf) – pamphlet-like divine writings, containing modes of worship and laws. According to reports, around 100 scrolls were revealed to previous Prophets.
The Shining Book – this denotes the main scriptures, particularly the Torah and the Injeel, which were complete and formal revelations.
This verse highlights that rejection of Prophets despite them bringing every possible proof has always been the practice of disbelievers, and thus, the Prophet ﷺ should not be saddened or shaken by their denial.
