📖 Commentary / Tafsir of Surah Aal-e-Imran – Verse 71

"O People of the Scripture, why do you intermingle truth with falsehood [150], and why do you conceal the truth while you have knowledge [151]?"

✅ [150] Mixing Truth with Falsehood

In this verse:

  • “Truth” refers to the original, unaltered revelations found in the Taurat and Injeel, which were divinely revealed by Allah Almighty.

  • “Falsehood” refers to the distortions, alterations, and additions introduced later—especially by the Jewish scholars (Yahud), who mixed human interpretation and manipulation with divine scripture.

  • The Qur’an highlights that such deliberate blending misleads people and obscures the true message of Allah.

  • In contrast, commentators of the Qur’an take great care not to mix human commentary with the actual Qur’anic verses—they differentiate it visually and structurally (e.g., bold Surah names, margin signs like Rukuʿ), preserving the sanctity of Divine text.

✅ [151] Concealing the Truth Despite Knowledge

Two important lessons emerge from this part of the verse:

  1. It is strictly prohibited to present human words as if they are from the Qur’an, or to format commentary in a way that blurs the line between Divine revelation and human interpretation.

  2. Deliberately giving false information or hiding the truth—especially in matters of belief—is a grave sin. This includes altering doctrinal teachings, concealing prophecies about the final Messenger ﷺ, or distorting religious truths for personal or political gain.
