Transliteration:( Qul innamaaa ad'oo rabbee wa laaa ushriku biheee 'ahada )
Say, "I only call upon my Lord, and I do not associate anyone with Him."
✅ The Purity of the Prophet ﷺ [33]
This verse is a praise of the Holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, declaring his pure and sincere devotion to Allah (اللَّهُ ) alone.
✅ He is the first true worshipper of Allah (اللَّهُ ) among all creation.
✅ Despite being sent among polytheists, he always remained completely free from shirk (polytheism), kufr (infidelity), sins, and any moral flaws.
✅ Open Declaration of Faith
This verse also teaches that:
A person should openly declare his religion, faith, and sincerity.
So that others may learn, follow, and adopt the truth.
This declaration of Tawheed removes the basis of Taqiya (the practice of hiding one's faith), especially when the truth must be made clear.
The tafsir of Surah Jinn verse 20 by Ibn Kathir is unavailable here.
Please refer to Surah Jinn ayat 18 which provides the complete commentary from verse 18 through 24.
(72:20) Say, (O Prophet): “I call on my Lord alone, and I do not associate aught with Him in His Divinity.”[21]
21. That is, to call upon Allah is no objectionable thing, which may so provoke the people. The evil thing, however, is that one should associate another with Allah in His divinity, and this I never do; this is done by those who mob and surround me when they hear God mentioned by me.
