📖 Commentary of Verse 24 (Surah Al-Jinn)

“Until they see what they are promised. Soon they will know who is weaker in aid and fewer in number.”

✅ Who Has the Stronger Support? [38]

  • This verse speaks about the disbelievers who mock the believers, thinking that they are weak.

  • Allah (اللَّهُ ) says: Just wait — when the promised punishment or the Day of Judgment ⚖️ arrives, they will realize the truth.

  • The question posed: Are the supporters of the disbelievers stronger, or those of the believers?

    • Clearly, the believers are stronger — because they are backed by divine help.

✅ Who Has Greater Numbers? [39]

  • Though outwardly, the disbelievers may seem more in number, in spiritual strength and heavenly support, they are nothing.

  • The helpers of the believers include:

    • The Prophets, especially the Holy Prophet ﷺ

    • The Angels ✨

    • The pious believers

📖 As mentioned in Surah At-Tahrim (66:4):
"Then undoubtedly Allah is their Helper, and Jibraeel, and the righteous believers, and after that the angels are his helpers."

  • The disbelievers on the other hand, will find no one to help them when punishment arrives. Their power and numbers are meaningless in the sight of Allah (اللَّهُ ).

The tafsir of Surah Jinn verse 24 by Ibn Kathir is unavailable here.
Please refer to Surah Jinn ayat 18 which provides the complete commentary from verse 18 through 24.

(72:24) (They shall not change their ways) until they see that against which they had been warned, and then they will know whose helpers are weaker and whose supporters are fewer in number.[24]

Ala-Maududi

(72:24) (They shall not change their ways) until they see that against which they had been warned, and then they will know whose helpers are weaker and whose supporters are fewer in number.[24]

24. The background of this verse is that those of the Quraish who used to mob and surround the Prophet (peace be upon him) as soon as they heard his invitation calling to Allah were under the delusion that they had a strong band at their back and that the Prophet (peace be upon him) had only a handful of men with him, and therefore, they would easily overwhelm him. At this it is being said: Today these people find the Messenger (peace be upon him) helpless and friendless and they themselves supported and strengthened by great hosts and, therefore, feel encouraged and emboldened to suppress the invitation to the truth. But when the evil time with which they are being threatened comes, they will know who in fact is helpless and friendless.

(24) [The disbelievers continue] until, when they see that which they are promised, then they will know who is weaker in helpers and less in number.
