Transliteration:( Wa maa khalaqaz zakara wal unthaa )
3. By Him Who created the male and the female:
This verse highlights Allah Almighty as the Creator of the two foundational biological sexes, male and female, emphasizing the divine wisdom in the design of creation. Several insights emerge from this:
The Creator’s Uniqueness:
While the creation is dual in nature, represented by male and female, Allah Almighty transcends such duality. The Creator is pure, free from all limitations or attributes associated with the creation.
Biological Diversity and Hermaphrodites:
Modern science acknowledges the existence of intersex individuals who exhibit characteristics that do not fit neatly into the typical definitions of male or female. However, these variations are understood within the broader biological framework of sex differentiation. Intersex conditions are natural phenomena and are not indicative of a distinct third gender but rather variations within the two categories. Similarly, hybrids like mules are biologically either male or female despite their inability to reproduce.
The Order of Creation:
The verse underlines that the system of creation operates through two sexes—male and female—each playing a complementary role in the continuation of life. While contemporary discussions on gender identity and expression expand on the social understanding of gender, the biological foundation remains rooted in these two sexes.
