📖 Commentary of Surah Al-Ma’idah – Verse 104

"And when it is said to them, 'Come to what Allah has revealed and to the Messenger' [278], they say, 'Sufficient for us is what we found our forefathers upon.' What! Even if their forefathers knew nothing and were not guided [279]?"

✅ Qur’an Must Be Accepted Alongside the Messenger [278]

This verse makes clear that accepting the Qur’an alone is not enough—one must also accept the Messenger ﷺ to whom it was revealed. True guidance lies in holding the Qur’an in hand and the Prophet ﷺ in the heart. Just as Hadith clarifies and completes the Qur’an, so does accepting the Prophet’s authority and teachings ensure complete submission to divine will.

✅ Blind Following of Ignorant Traditions Is Misguidance [279]

Those who cling to ancestral customs even when they contradict revelation are following the path of disbelievers. Guidance demands following the righteous and the learned, not the ignorant ways of forefathers. Allah critiques those who say, “We follow our fathers,” even if they had no knowledge or guidance. Believers are instead commanded: “And be with the truthful” (Surah 9:119).
