Transliteration:( Wa iz awhaitu ilal hawaariyyeena an aaminoo bee wa bi Rasoolee qaalooo aamannaa washhad bi annanaa muslimoon )
"And when I revealed to the disciples [305] to believe in Me and in My Messenger, they said, 'We have believed, and You bear witness that we are Muslims [306].'"
The term “revealed” in this verse refers not to prophetic revelation, but to divine inspiration placed in the hearts of the disciples of Isa (AS). Similar expressions occur in: “We inspired the mother of Musa” (Surah 28:7) and “Your Lord inspired the bee” (Surah 16:68). This indicates a non-verbal, internal guidance from Allah.
Two principles are drawn from this verse:
Faith should be openly declared, not hidden in the heart alone. The disciples expressed their Islam publicly.
Making the Prophet a witness to one’s faith is a noble act, as Prophets serve as divine witnesses. Their testimony carries great spiritual weight before Allah.
The tafsir of Surah Maidah verse 111 by Ibn Kathir is unavailable here.
Please refer to Surah Maidah ayat 110 which provides the complete commentary from verse 110 through 111.
(5:111) And recall when I revealed to the disciples to believe in Me and in My Mes-senger, they said: “We do believe, and we bear witness that we indeed are the ones who submit to Allah”[127]
127. Jesus is being told that the faith of the disciples in him was also the result of God’s grace and succour, for he, himself, did not have the power to produce even one man of faith in that land of disbelief. It is also made clear that the true religion of the disciples of Jesus was Islam.
