Transliteration:( Yahdee bihil laahu manit taba'a ridwaanahoo subulas salaami wa yukhrijuhum minaz zulumaati ilan noori bi iznihee wa yahdeehim ilaa Siraatim Mustaqeem )
70. From this we learn that those whom Allah has guided or will guide receive the guidance through the Holy Prophet ? No person can remain resigned from the Holy Prophet: Therefor the words"Guide therewith him" are used in the verse.
71. From this emerge a few issues:
1. Apostasy is of numerous types; Faith is only one. Thus darkness is used in the plural, while Light or faith is used in the singular.Â
2. The pre-requisite of Faith is to remain aloof from all forms of Apostasy.
 3. Faith and apostasy cannot be in one place because Faith is referred to by Allah as Light, while apostasy is called darkness. Just as light is the opposite of darkness so is faith of apostasy. Hence there can be no basis for unity between a believer and a non-believer.
72. By "shows" means Allah guides the believers to do pious deeds, because mention has already been made about beliefs.

The tafsir of Surah Maidah verse 16 by Ibn Kathir is unavailable here.
Please refer to Surah Maidah ayat 15 which provides the complete commentary from verse 15 through 16.
(5:16) through which Allah shows to all who seek to please Him the paths leading to safety.[38] He brings them out, by His leave, from darkness to light and directs them on to the straight way.
38. The word ‘safety’ here denotes safety from false perception and outlook, safety from misdeeds and their consequences. Whoever seeks guidance from the Book of God and from the example of the Messenger (peace be on him) can find out how to keep himself safe from errors at each of life’s crossroads.
[252]- i.e., security, well-being, integrity and escape from Hellfire. Literally, "freedom from all evil."
