Quran Quote  :  Verily We have sent down for you revelations which clearly expound true guidance, and examples of those who passed away before you, and an admonition for those who fear (Allah). - 24:34

Quran-5:66 Surah Al-maidah English Translation,Transliteration and Tafsir(Tafseer).

Transliteration:( Wa law annahum aqaamut Tawraata wal Injeela wa maaa unzila ilaihim mir Rabbihim la akaloo min fawqihim wa min tahti arjulihim; minhum ummatum muqta sidatunw wa kaseerum minhum saaa'a maa ya'maloon )

66. And had they maintained the Tawrat [198] and Injeel and what had been revealed to them from their Lord, they would have certainly received provisions from above them and from beneath their feet [199]. Among them is a moderate community, but most of them are doing evil things [200]. (Kanzul Imaan Translation)

(66) And if only they had upheld [the law of] the Torah, the Gospel, and what has been revealed to them from their Lord [i.e., the Qur’ān], they would have consumed [provision] from above them and from beneath their feet.[274] Among them are a moderate [i.e., acceptable] community, but many of them - evil is that which they do. (Saheen International Translation)

Surah Al-Maidah Ayat 66 Tafsir (Commentry)

  • Tafseer-e-Naeemi (Ahmad Yaar Khan)
  • Ibn Kathir
  • Ala-Madudi
  • Shaheen International

 198. By "had they maintained" it meant that they had believed in the Holy Prophet because this is commanded in the Taurat and Injee.

199. That is, there would be abundance in the rain from the sky and growth from the earth. From this is understood that adherence to one's religion and obedience to Allah result in the increase of one's sustenance.

200. By this it meant all the people of the Book are not equal. Some who are moderate would believe in the Holy Prophet ? like Hazrat Abdullah Ibn Salaam. Some are very biased and are not blessed with faith.

Ibn-Kathir

The tafsir of Surah Maidah verse 66 by Ibn Kathir is unavailable here.
Please refer to Surah Maidah ayat 64 which provides the complete commentary from verse 64 through 66.

(5:66) Had the People of the Book observed the Torah and the Gospel, and all that had been revealed to them from their Lord, sustenance would have been showered over them from above and risen from beneath their feet.[96] Some among them certainly keep to the right path; but many of them do things which are evil.

Ala-Maududi

(5:66) Had the People of the Book observed the Torah and the Gospel, and all that had been revealed to them from their Lord, sustenance would have been showered over them from above and risen from beneath their feet.[96] Some among them certainly keep to the right path; but many of them do things which are evil.

96 In the Old Testament, Leviticus (chapter 26) and Deuteronomy (chapter 28) record a sermon of Moses in which he impresses upon Israel, in great detail, the bounties and blessings of God with which they would be endowed if they obeyed His commandments, and the afflictions, scourges and devastations that would descend upon them if they disobeyed Him and rejected the Book of God. That sermon of Moses is the best explanation of this verse of the Qur’an.

[274]- i.e., in great abundance.
