The Justice of Allah – Commentary (Tafseer) of Verse 83:36

"How the infidels have been retributed for their doings."

Absolute Justice on the Day of Judgment

This verse highlights that the disbelievers will face the full consequences of their actions. They will be asked:

  • Have you received the full recompense for your deeds?
  • Do you now see the result of your arrogance and disbelief?

Key Lessons from This Verse

  1. No Injustice in the Hereafter

    • The disbelievers will not be punished unjustly; rather, they will see that their own deeds led to their downfall.
  2. Every Deed Has a Consequence

    • The mockery and oppression they inflicted upon the believers in the world will now return to them as severe punishment.
  3. Retribution Before Reckoning

    • Before their final reckoning, they will be made to recall their evil actions and witness the punishment they earned for themselves.

This verse serves as a reminder of Allah’s perfect justice—no one will be wronged, and everyone will receive exactly what they deserve.

Ala-Maududi

(83:36) Have the unbelievers been duly rewarded for their deeds?[15]

15. There is a subtle satire in this sentence. In the world, the disbelievers used to persecute the believers, thinking it was an act of virtue. In the Hereafter, the believers will be enjoying life in Paradise, and watching the disbelievers being punished in Hell. They will say to themselves: What a reward they have earned for their acts of virtue.

(36) Have the disbelievers [not] been rewarded [this Day] for what they used to do?
