📖 Commentary of Surah Al-Qalam, Verse 27

"No, in fact, we have been deprived."

[25] Realization of Loss

  • Upon seeing the destruction of their garden, the sons first thought they had lost their way or ended up in the wrong place. They were initially confused and believed that their garden had not been as large as they remembered.

  • After reflecting, they realized that the issue was not about being lost but that they had been deprived of their wealth and the garden had been taken away due to their greed and failure to fulfill their duty of charity.

Ibn-Kathir

16. That is, on seeing the garden they didn’t believe it was their own garden, and they said: Perhaps we have lost our way and come to another place. But, when they considered it seriously and found it was their own garden, they cried out: Alas we are deprived.

(27) Rather, we have been deprived."
