Judgement Day: The Dread and Terror

In this verse, the address is directed towards the believers who recite the Holy Quran. It says, "O believer! Although the Holy Qur'aan and the Possessor of the Holy Quran have described every angle of the dread of Judgement Day, you will not be able to have full knowledge of it in the true sense of the word. You will only know it after witnessing it."

If this address is intended for the Holy Prophet ﷺ, it means: "O My Beloved ﷺ, the terror and dread of Judgement Day is such that even you would not be able to perceive it by your intelligence and assumption, although your understanding and intelligence are greater than the entire creation. You have knowledge of it through Divine revelation and manifestation."

This verse does not negate the knowledge of the Holy Prophet ﷺ, as he had witnessed the signs of the Day of Judgement, including the Day of Judgement itself, Hell, Paradise, and the punishment and rewards associated with these places, during the Night of Me'raaj, among other revelations.

Key Points:

  1. Believers' Limited Understanding: Even though the Holy Quran describes the dread of Judgement Day in great detail, true understanding of it can only be attained by witnessing it.
  2. Address to the Prophet ﷺ: The verse can also be interpreted as an address to the Prophet ﷺ, indicating that even his vast understanding cannot fully comprehend the terror of Judgement Day, despite his superior intelligence.
  3. Divine Revelation: The Prophet ﷺ's knowledge of the Day of Judgement, Hell, Paradise, and their punishments and rewards comes through Divine revelation and manifestation, not through personal reasoning.
  4. No Negation of Prophet's Knowledge: The verse does not diminish the knowledge of the Prophet ﷺ, who had witnessed these realities during the Night of Me'raaj.
