    Transliteration:( Qul ara'aitum in ja'alal laahu 'alaikumul laila sarmadan ilaa Yawmil Qiyaamati man ilaahun ghairul laahi yaa teekum bidiyaaa'in afalaa tasma'oon )

    71. Say[O Prophet], "Have you considered if Allah were to make the night perpetual until the Day of Resurrection [174], who besides Allah could bring you light [175]? Will you not then hear [176]?" (Kanzul Imaan Translation)

    (71) Say, "Have you considered:[1118] if Allāh should make for you the night continuous until the Day of Resurrection, what deity other than Allāh could bring you light? Then will you not hear?" (Saheen International Translation)

    📖 Commentary of Surah Al-Qasas – Verse 71

    "Say [O Prophet], 'Have you considered if Allah were to make the night perpetual until the Day of Resurrection [174], who besides Allah could bring you light [175]? Will you not then hear? [176]'"

    ✅ [174] Night Without End – A Reflection of Power

    This verse asks mankind to imagine if Allah made the night endless, stretching all the way till the Day of Resurrection. This could happen in various ways:

    • If the sun’s movement were halted,

    • Or its radiance extinguished,

    • Or it continued to move below the horizon, never rising again,

    • Or even if the sun were destroyed altogether.

    This rhetorical question highlights human helplessness—no one can restore the light if Allah were to take it away.

    ✅ [175] False Gods Cannot Restore Light

    This is a clear challenge to the polytheists:

    • Even they acknowledge that their idols and false gods cannot create or restore light.

    • Then why persist in worshiping powerless entities?

    Only Allah, the sole Creator, has the power to bring light out of darkness.

    It is important to note that miracles, such as the reappearance of the sun at the Prophet’s ﷺ request, were granted by Allah alone—not by any creation.

    ✅ [176] Hearing as a Sign of Faith

    The final question—"Will you not then hear?"—is a reminder that:

    • True hearing refers to spiritual attentiveness, not just physical sound.

    • The ears of the heart must be used to accept truth and embrace faith.

    If people truly listened, they would realize the futility of idol worship and the absolute sovereignty of Allah.

    71. Say: “Tell me! If Allah made the night continuous for you till the Day of Resurrection, which god besides Allah could bring you light Will you not then hear” 72. Say: “Tell me! If Allah made the day continuous for you till the Day of Resurrection, which god besides Allah could bring you night wherein you rest Will you not then see” 73. It is out of His mercy that He has made for you the night and the day that you may rest therein and that you may seek of His bounty — and in order that you may be grateful.

    Night and Day are among the Blessings of Allah and are Signs of Tawhid

    Allah reminds His servants of His favors towards them by subjugating for them the night and day, without which they could not survive. He explains that if He made the night continuous, lasting until the Day of Resurrection, that would be harmful for them and would cause boredom and stress. So He says:

    ﴿مَنْ إِلَـهٌ غَيْرُ اللَّهِ يَأْتِيكُمْ بِضِيَآءٍ﴾

    (which god besides Allah could bring you light) meaning, `with which you could see things and which would bring you relief’

    ﴿أَفَلاَ تَسْمَعُونَ﴾

    (Will you not then hear) Then Allah tells us that if He had made the day continuous, lasting until the Day of Resurrection, that would also be harmful for them and their bodies would get tired from so much movement and activity. Allah says:

    ﴿مَنْ إِلَـهٌ غَيْرُ اللَّهِ يَأْتِيكُمْ بِلَيْلٍ تَسْكُنُونَ فِيهِ﴾

    (which god besides Allah could bring you night wherein you rest) meaning, `to rest from your work and activity.’

    ﴿أَفلاَ تُبْصِرُونَوَمِن رَّحْمَتِهِ﴾

    (Will you not then see It is out of His mercy) towards you,

    ﴿جَعَلَ لَكُمُ الَّيْلَ وَالنَّهَارَ﴾

    (that He has made for you the night and the day) He created both,

    ﴿لِتَسْكُنُواْ فِيهِ﴾

    (that you may rest therein) during the night,

    ﴿وَلِتَبْتَغُواْ مِن فَضْلِهِ﴾

    (and that you may seek of His bounty) during the day, by traveling, moving about and working.

    ﴿وَلَعَلَّكُمْ تَشْكُرُونَ﴾

    (and in order that you may be grateful.) So that you may give thanks to Allah by performing all kinds of acts of worship at night and during the day. Whoever misses something during the night can make it up during the day, and vice versa. This is like the Ayah,

    ﴿وَهُوَ الَّذِى جَعَلَ الَّيْلَ وَالنَّهَارَ خِلْفَةً لِّمَنْ أَرَادَ أَن يَذَّكَّرَ أَوْ أَرَادَ شُكُوراً ﴾

    (And He it is Who has put the night and the day in succession, for such who desires to remember or desires to show his gratitude.) (25:62). And there are many similar Ayat.

    (28:71) (O Prophet), tell them: “Did you consider: if Allah were to make the night perpetual over you till the Day of Judgement, is there a god other than Allah who can bring forth light for you? Do you not hear?”

    (28:71) (O Prophet), tell them: “Did you consider: if Allah were to make the night perpetual over you till the Day of Judgement, is there a god other than Allah who can bring forth light for you? Do you not hear?”

    There is no commentary by Abul Maududi available for this verse.

    (71) Say, "Have you considered:[1118] if Allāh should make for you the night continuous until the Day of Resurrection, what deity other than Allāh could bring you light? Then will you not hear?"

    [1118]- Meaning "Inform me if you really know."
