📖 Commentary of Surah An-Nahl – Verse 52

"And whatever is in the heavens and the earth [107] belongs to Allah, and obedience to Him is incumbent [108]. Will you then fear anyone other than Allah?"

✅ [107] True Ownership Belongs Only to Allah

The entire creation and all possessions in reality belong to Allah Almighty. While certain forms of ownership may be granted temporarily to individuals through Divine endowment, such ownership is metaphorical and limited.

However, the one who becomes a beloved of Allah Almightythe world is made to serve him, as a sign of Divine favour.

✅ [108] Eternal Obedience to Allah Alone

This means that obedience to Allah’s religion will never fade, because He is eternal and absolute—both in this world and the Hereafter.

Other religions and systems are forgotten upon death, and there will be no obedience to anyone besides Allah in the next life. Only submission to Allah Almighty will remain valid and recognized.

Ibn-Kathir

The tafsir of Surah An-Nahl verse 52 by Ibn Kathir is unavailable here.
Please refer to Surah Nahl ayat 51 which provides the complete commentary from verse 51 through 55.

(16:52) His is whatever is in the heavens and the earth, and obedience to Him inevitably pervades the whole universe.[44] Will you, then, hold in awe any other than Allah?[45]

Ala-Maududi

(16:52) His is whatever is in the heavens and the earth, and obedience to Him inevitably pervades the whole universe.[44] Will you, then, hold in awe any other than Allah?[45]

44. In other words it means that the entire system of the universe exists on its obedience to Him.

45. That is, when it is so, will you then make the fear of any other than God the basis of the system of your life?

(52) And to Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and the earth, and to Him is [due] worship constantly. Then is it other than Allāh that you fear?
