Transliteration:( Wa izaa bushshira ahaduhum bil unsaa zalla wajhuhoo muswaddanw wa huwa kazeem )
"And when anyone is given glad tidings of the birth of a girl, his face becomes dark and he suppresses his anger [116]."
From this we learn that expressing sorrow or displeasure at the birth of a daughter was the practice of the disbelievers, particularly in pre-Islamic Arabia. This attitude is condemned in the Qur'an.
However, desiring a son—not out of pride, but for the service of the religion—is considered commendable and in accordance with the Sunnah of the Prophets.
The verse exposes the backward mindset of those who viewed daughters as a burden, while also affirming that all children are blessings from Allah, and one's reaction to their birth reflects faith or ignorance.
