Transliteration:( Falaa tadriboo lillaahil amsaal; innal laaha ya'lamu wa antum laa ta'lamoon )
"Then set no similitudes [158] for Allah. No doubt, Allah knows and you do not know."
This means: Do not draw comparisons, set examples, or make anyone equal to Allah Almighty, because He is absolutely unique and without comparison.
As Allah clearly states:
"There is none like Him." (Surah Ash-Shura 42:11)
Any attempt to liken Allah to His creation—whether in essence, attributes, or actions—is a grave error. Allah alone possesses perfect knowledge, while human beings are limited and fallible in their understanding. Therefore, any analogy drawn from human logic or imagination about the Divine is inaccurate and misleading.
This verse is a powerful reminder that true knowledge lies with Allah, and human beings must approach Him with humility, submission, and reverence, without imposing false resemblances or comparisons.
The tafsir of Surah An-Nahl verse 74 by Ibn Kathir is unavailable here.
Please refer to Surah Nahl ayat 73 which provides the complete commentary from verse 73 through 74.
(16:74) So do not strike any similitudes to Allah.[65] Allah knows whereas you do not know.
65. “So do not make up any similitude for Allah”: You should not compare Allah with others nor consider Him to be unapproachable like worldly kings and rulers, to whom none can have access without the mediation and intercession of their courtiers and servants. As Allah is not surrounded by angels, saints, favorites, etc. everyone can have direct access to Him without mediation by anyone. 7
[710]- As there is nothing comparable to Him.
