Transliteration:( Wa laa tattakhizooo aimaanakum dakhalam bainakum fatazilla qadamum ba'da subootihaa wa tazooqus sooo'a bima sadattum 'an sabeelil laahi wa lakum 'azaabun 'azeem )
"And do not exchange the covenant of Allah for a small price [218]. Indeed, what is with Allah is better [219] for you if you know."
Breaking the oath taken on the Day of Covenant for the greed of this world.
O believers! do not break the promise you had sworn on the hands of the Holy Prophet ﷺ at the time of Bay’at-e-Ridwan
by accepting money from the infidels of Makkah, and for this do not turn away from Islam.
By better is meant success, victory, and riches in the world
and reward and pleasure of Allah Almighty in the Hereafter.
The tafsir of Surah An-Nahl verse 95 by Ibn Kathir is unavailable here.
Please refer to Surah Nahl ayat 93 which provides the complete commentary from verse 93 through 96.
(16:95) Do not barter away the covenant[96] of Allah for a paltry gain.[97] Verily that which is with Allah is far better for you, if you only knew.
96. That is, the covenant that you may make in the name of Allah as a representative of His religion.
97. It does not mean that they should barter away Allah’s covenant for some big gain. What it implies is that any worldly gain howsoever great is insignificant as compared with the worth of Allah’s covenant. Therefore, it will be a losing bargain to barter that away for any worldly gain, which is after all paltry.
