📖 Verse 50 (Surah An-Najm)

"And that surely it is He Who destroyed the first Aad [60]."

[60] Destruction of the First Aad
The people of Aad are mentioned in two contexts. The first Aad refers to the people whose Prophet was Hazrat Hud (On whom be peace). After the people of Hazrat Nuh (On whom be peace), they were the first to be destroyed by a severe sandstorm as punishment for their disobedience. They were descendants of Aad ibn Eram. The second Aad refers to the people who lived during the time of Hazrat Musa (On whom be peace), with whom the Prophet of Allah had fought at a place called Areehab (Tafseer Roohul Mu'ani). This incident has been discussed earlier.

Ibn-Kathir

(53:50) that He it is Who destroyed the ancient ‘Ad,[45]

Ala-Maududi

(53:50) that He it is Who destroyed the ancient ‘Ad,[45]

45. Aad Ula signifies the ancient Aad to whom the Prophet Houd (peace be upon him) had been appointed as a Prophet. When those people were inflicted with the torment in consequence of denying the Prophet Houd (peace be upon him), only the believers escaped the punishment. Their descendants are called Aad Ukhra, or the latter Aad, in history.

(50) And that He destroyed the first [people of] ʿAad
