"And he was on the highest horizon [8] (to see Splendid Divine Sight)."
✅ [8] The Highest Horizon and the Physical Me'raaj
These verses discuss the physical Mi'raaj (Ascension) of the Holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
Hazrat Muhammad Mustapha ﷺ traveled through the high regions of the seven heavens, reaching the Empyrean Throne (Arsh) of Allah Almighty.
At the station of Sidratul Muntaha — the Heavenly Tree beyond which no creation could pass — even Hazrat Jibraeel (AS) had to stop, but the Holy Prophet ﷺ advanced even further, witnessing Splendid Divine Sights that no other creation had been privileged to see.
✅ References and Confirmation
This miraculous journey has been reported by Hazrat Hasan Basri (RA) and is elaborated upon in famous Tafaseer such as Tafseer Kabeer, Roohul Bayaan, and Khazain-e-Irfaan.
The "highest horizon" symbolizes the limitless exaltation and Divine proximity that Allah Almighty bestowed exclusively upon His Beloved Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
The tafsir of Surah Tur verse 7 by Ibn Kathir is unavailable here.
Please refer to Surah Tur ayat 5 which provides the complete commentary from verse 5 through 18.
(53:7) being on the higher horizon.[7]
7. The horizon means the eastern edge of the sky where the sun rises and the day dawns. The same has been referred to as ufuq-mubin (bright horizon) in (Surah Takweer, Ayat 23). Both the verses make it explicit that when the Prophet (peace be upon him) saw Gabriel for the first time, he had appeared on the eastern horizon of the sky; and there are several authentic traditions which show that at that time he was in his real shape in which Allah has created him. We shall quote all such traditions below.
[1564]- i.e., in the sky, above the eastern horizon.
