📖 Commentary of Surah An-Naml – Verse 25

"Why they prostrate not before Allah Who brings forth the hidden things of the Heavens and the Earth [55] and knows what you conceal and what you declare?" (Kanzul Imaan Translation)

✅ [55] A Call to Worship the True Creator

These are the continued words of the hoopoe (Hudhud)—spoken with remarkable wisdom and recorded by Allah in honor of his insight. The bird questions why Queen Bilqis and her people do not prostrate before Allah, the true Lord—the One who brings forth hidden treasures of the heavens and earth, such as rain, crops, minerals, and celestial secrets.

This shows that even a humble bird recognizes that only the One with power over the unseen is worthy of worship—not the sun, which is a created object, bound by Allah’s command.

✅ Divine Knowledge of All Matters

The verse also reminds that Allah knows both what is hidden and what is revealed—referring to intentions, thoughts, and actions. It highlights Allah’s complete awareness, making it clear that worship must be directed to the One who knows all, not to lifeless celestial bodies.

Thus, even a creature like the hoopoe delivers a profound message of tawheed (pure monotheism), rejecting shirk, and inviting to the worship of the All-Knowing Creator.

Ibn-Kathir

The tafsir of Surah Naml verse 25 by Ibn Kathir is unavailable here.
Please refer to Surah Naml ayat 22 which provides the complete commentary from verse 22 through 26.

(27:25) that they would prostrate themselves before Allah Who brings to light all that is hidden in the heavens and the earth[33] and knows all that you conceal and all that you reveal.[34]

Ala-Maududi

(27:25) that they would prostrate themselves before Allah Who brings to light all that is hidden in the heavens and the earth[33] and knows all that you conceal and all that you reveal.[34]

33. That is, He is bringing continuously into existence those things which before their birth were hidden here and there. He is bringing out continuously countless kinds of vegetation and minerals from the bowels of the earth. He is manifesting from upper space such things as could not even be conceived by the human mind before their manifestation.

34. That is, His knowledge embraces everything, the open and hidden are alike for Him. He is aware of everything. By citing these two attributes of Allah the object is to impress that if they had not been deluded by Satan, they could have seen the right way clearly. They could have perceived that the hot burning sphere of the sun which has no sense of its own existence, did not deserve to be worshiped but worship was due to Him alone who is the All-Knowing and the All-Wise Being, and whose power is bringing into existence new and ever new phenomena every moment.

(25) [And] so they do not prostrate to Allāh, who brings forth what is hidden within the heavens and the earth and knows what you conceal and what you declare -
