📖 Commentary of Surah Ar-Ra’d – Verse 21

"And those who uphold what Allah has commanded to be joined [62], and fear their Lord [63], and fear the evil reckoning [64]."

✅ What Allah has commanded to be joined [62]

  • Allah Almighty has commanded to establish certain relationships and disassociate from others.

  • One must maintain a relationship of servitude, reverence, and love with the Holy Prophet ﷺ, religious guides, and the believers.

  • With infidels, especially among family, one must maintain ties of basic kinship and rights, but not bonds of love.

  • This verse lays the foundation for many jurisprudential rulings regarding social and spiritual bonds.

✅ Fear of their Lord [63]

  • These righteous people, despite their good deeds, carry a deep sense of humility and awe of Allah Almighty.

  • They do not become proud of their actions, and always remain conscious of Allah’s presence.

  • This fear does not imply doubt in Allah's mercy or promise—which would be disbelief—but rather reflects piety and sincerity.

✅ Fear of the evil reckoning [64]

  • These individuals examine their own deeds in the world before being held accountable in the grave or on the Day of Judgement.

  • Such self-accountability helps them stay steadfast and avoid complacency in religious duties.
