فَمَهِّلِ ٱلۡكَٰفِرِينَ أَمۡهِلۡهُمۡ رُوَيۡدَۢا

Transliteration:( Famahhilil kaafireena amhilhum ruwaidaa )

17. So give time to the infidels, only for a little while [14]. (Kanzul Imaan Translation)

(17) So allow time for the disbelievers. Leave them awhile.[1905] (Saheen International Translation)

14. In that do not declare Holy War on them. Thus, after fourteen years of the advent of Islam, no battle was declared on the infidels. Only verbal explanations were given. This verse is abrogated from the verse of Jihad (holy war).

Ala-Maududi

(86:17) So leave the unbelievers to themselves; respite them awhile.[10]


10. That is, I am planning that none of their devices should succeed so that they are utterly defeated in their designs, and the light which they are trying their utmost to put out, spreads far and wide.

[1905]- i.e., Do not be in haste for revenge, for you will see what will become of them.
