    وَلَا تُعۡجِبۡكَ أَمۡوَٰلُهُمۡ وَأَوۡلَٰدُهُمۡۚ إِنَّمَا يُرِيدُ ٱللَّهُ أَن يُعَذِّبَهُم بِهَا فِي ٱلدُّنۡيَا وَتَزۡهَقَ أَنفُسُهُمۡ وَهُمۡ كَٰفِرُونَ,

    Transliteration:( Wa laa tu'jibka amwaaluhum wa awlaaduhum; innamaa yureedul laahu any yu'azzibahum bihaa fid dunyaa wa tazhaqa anfusuhum wa hum kaafiroon )

    85. Be not astonished over their wealth and children. Allah only intends to punish [234] them therewith in this world, and that they part with their souls while they are infidels [235]. (Kanzul Imaan Translation)

    (85) And let not their wealth and their children impress you. Allāh only intends to punish them through them in this world and that their souls should depart [at death] while they are disbelievers. (Saheen International Translation)

    234. That they should get engrossed in these matters in such a way that they would be unable to remember Allah Almighty. This tells any wealth or children which becomes an obstacle in the remembrance of Allah Almighty is unsound and bad.

    235. By this is meant until death their total love for these things will not give them an opportunity to turn their attention to Allah Almighty. May Allah Almighty protect us from this evil

     

    Ibn-Kathir

    85. And let not their wealth or their children amaze you. Allah only wants to punish them with these things in this world, and that their souls shall depart (die) while they are disbelievers.) We mentioned before the explanation of a similar Ayah, all the thanks and praises are due to Allah.

    (9:85) Let not their riches or their children excite your admiration. Through these Allah seeks to chastise them in this world, and that their lives will depart them while they are unbelievers.

    Ala-Maududi
