Transliteration:( In anta illaa nazeer )
"You are but a warner [70]."
This verse clarifies that the primary duty of the Holy Prophet ﷺ is to convey the message and warn people of the consequences of disbelief.
It does not mean that the Prophet ﷺ has no other qualities besides being a warner. In fact, he is:
The Mercy to the worlds,
The Intercessor for sinners,
The Possessor of countless divine gifts and exalted attributes.
The verse implies that the Prophet ﷺ will not be held accountable for the disbelievers’ rejection of faith, as Allah says:
"You shall not be questioned about the inmates of Hell." (Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:119)
His duty was to warn, and the guidance lies solely with Allah.
The tafsir of Surah Fatir verse 23 by Ibn Kathir is unavailable here.
Please refer to Surah Fatir ayat 19 which provides the complete commentary from verse 19 through 26.
(35:23) You are no more than a warner.[44]
44. That is, your only duty is to warn the people and nothing else. If even after this a person does not come to his senses, and remains lost in his deviations, you are not to blame for that, for you have not been entrusted with the duty of making the blind to see and the deaf to hear.
