📖 Commentary of Surah Fussilat – Verse 41

“Certainly those who deny [110] the Remembrance (Qur’an) when it comes to them [111] (are losers), as without doubt, it is an esteemed [112] Book.”

✅ [110] Rejection of the Remembrance (Zikr)

The term “Zikr” here refers to both the Holy Qur’an and the Holy Prophet ﷺ. Denying this Zikr includes:

  • Rejecting the Prophethood of the Holy Prophet ﷺ,

  • Rejecting any attribute of his blessed personality,

  • Or refusing to follow his commands.

Thus, denial of the Qur’an is not limited to disbelief in the Book, but extends to disobedience and disrespect towards the Prophet ﷺ as well.

✅ [111] Warning for Those Who Receive the Message

This verse highlights that once the message of Prophethood and the Qur’an has reached someone, denial is no longer excusable.
Those who lived before the Prophet’s ﷺ advent and believed in Tawheed (Oneness of Allah) will not be judged the same way.
But now, after the arrival of the final Messenger, rejection is a grave loss.

✅ [112] The Esteemed Status of the Qur’an

The word "esteemed" (عَزِيزٌ) implies that the Qur’an is:

  • Unique and matchless,

  • Exalted in status,

  • Powerful and protected, and

  • Immensely beneficial to those who believe.

Even the pages, covers, and binding of the Qur’an are honoured, and disrespecting them is forbidden.
The heart that memorizes the Qur’an and the person who becomes a Hafiz are both held in high regard in Islam.

May Allah protect us from rejecting this noble Book and make us among those who honour it inwardly and outwardly.

(41:41) These are the ones who rejected the Good Counsel when it came to them, although it is certainly a Mighty Book.[51]

Ala-Maududi

(41:41) These are the ones who rejected the Good Counsel when it came to them, although it is certainly a Mighty Book.[51]

51. A mighty Book: An unchanging Book, which cannot be defeated by tricks and cunning devices, which the worshipers of falsehood are employing against it. It has the force of the truth in it, the force of true knowledge, the force of argument and reason, the force of eloquence and style, the force of divinity of God who sent it, and the force of the personality of the Messenger who presented it. No one, therefore, can defeat it by falsehood and hollow propaganda.

(41) Indeed, those who disbelieve in the message [i.e., the Qur’ān][1395] after it has come to them...[1396] And indeed, it is a mighty[1397] Book.

[1395]- i.e., reject it or prefer deviant interpretation. [1396]- The conclusion is understood to be "...will have earned an indescribable punishment." [1397]- Inimitable, resistant to attack, protected by Allāh.
