📖 Commentary of Surah Ghafir – Verse 65

"He is Ever Living [166], None is to be worshipped except Him. So, worship Him, being sincere [167] only to Him in the religion. All praise belongs to Allah, Lord of all the worlds."

✅ 166. The Ever-Living and True Doer

Allah is the only One who lives eternally, without beginning or end. His life is perfect and independent, unlike all others who are alive only temporarily or by His permission. Just as He alone truly performs actions of will and power, all accomplishments by His beloved servants happen under His command and with His support.

✅ 167. Sincerity in Worship and Rejection of Polytheism

The command to worship Allah alone demands that one must purify their religion from all forms of shirk (polytheism)—both open and hidden. This includes reliance, hope, fear, or devotion directed toward anything besides Him. True sincerity (ikhlas) means devoting all acts of worship solely to Allah, without seeking recognition or mixing worldly motives.

This verse reinforces the core message of Tawheed (Oneness of God) and the need to safeguard belief and worship from every trace of association.

Ibn-Kathir

The tafsir of Surah Muminun verse 65 by Ibn Kathir is unavailable here.
Please refer to Surah Muminun ayat 61 which provides the complete commentary from verse 61 through 65.

(40:65) He is the Ever-Living:[92] there is no god but He. So call upon Him, consecrating to Him all your devotion.[93] All praise and thanks be to Allah, the Lord of the whole Universe.[94]

Ala-Maududi

(40:65) He is the Ever-Living:[92] there is no god but He. So call upon Him, consecrating to Him all your devotion.[93] All praise and thanks be to Allah, the Lord of the whole Universe.[94]

92. That is, His is the real and true life. He only is living by virtue of His own power. No one else has the eternal and everlasting lift but Him. All others have borrowed and temporary life, which is destined to death and perishable.

93. For explanation, see (Surah Az-Zumar, ayat 2-3) note 3-4.

94. That is, there is none else the hymns of whose praise may be sung and who may be thanked.

(65) He is the Ever-Living;[1377] there is no deity except Him, so call upon Him, [being] sincere to Him in religion. [All] praise is [due] to Allāh, Lord of the worlds.

[1377]- Whose life is without beginning or end, and upon whom all created life depends.
