📖 Commentary of Surah Ghafir – Verse 68

"It is He Who gives life and causes death; and when He decrees a thing, He only says to it: 'Be' and it comes into being [180]."

✅ 180. Declaration of Divine Power

This verse emphasizes Allah’s absolute authority over life and death—He alone is the one who gives existence and ends it. Unlike human actions that depend on tools, causes, and time, Allah's will is carried out by His mere command: "Be" (Kun), and it becomes.

This verse reflects the world of Divine command (Alam al-Amr), which is distinct from the world of physical creation (Alam al-Khalq). In the previous verse, the focus was on the natural processes—creation through dust, semen, clot, etc.—which reflects Divine Law (Sunnatullah). Here, the focus is on the Divine Power, which acts instantly and without cause.

Whether it's the origin of a soul, or a sudden event like resurrection, Allah’s word alone is enough. This shows that miraculous acts or spiritual realities don't require gradual means. Allah’s will transcends time and process.

This verse also serves as a reminder that life and death are not within human control, and that all beings exist only because of Allah’s decree.
