Transliteration:( Falammaa ra aw baasanaa qaalooo aamannaa billaahi wahdahoo wa kafarnaa bimaa kunnaa bihee mushrikeen )
"But when they saw Our punishment, they said: 'We believe [213] in only One Allah and we deny all that we used to associate with Him'."
This verse refers to the delayed belief of the disbelievers — a belief that only arose after witnessing the punishment of Allah.
Their declaration of Tawheed (Oneness of Allah) and rejection of polytheism came too late.
This was not the faith in the unseen that Allah demands, which requires trust and conviction before witnessing punishment or the Hereafter.
Thus, such last-moment belief—when faced with the certainty of Divine punishment—holds no value in the court of Allah.
It mirrors the regretful admissions of Pharaoh and others before him, whose faith after seeing the punishment was not accepted.
